what are you using xp pro home what on xp
click on start at the bottom left of your computer, then go to control panel, once that is open, click on user accounts, when you open that up, just create a new user account, make sure it administrative account then you can click on it and change all it's settings like add passwords change them what ever you will see then create a guest account and let them get on that they can't mess it up from there because it's just a guest and from there you will be able to create a screen name and password, so that no one else can sign on to your computer unless they have the password or sign in as a guest. if you want a certain link blocked on it on the desktop right click on it then click "send it to" a zip folder then go to it click on it then click file then "add password" then you will have to have it to open that folder

Go to control panel. I'm assume you know how to get there. Then switch to classic mode so It'll be easier for me to explain how to get there. Them form there click User Accounts. Your computer obviously has to have one screen name, without one it would prompt you to make one when you first start up your computer.

Since there is probably one already there, click on the one you recognize, even if it is called "Administrator." They're listed at the bottom. Then from there you can change your screen name, and add and remove a password. If you want to change it just to where you have to click your Screen Name before you computer starts up, then click back then click "Change the way users log on or off." Then check "Use the Welcome Screen."
I assume you have Windows XP.

there are a couple of easy things to do.

1.

if you are the sole user of the pc, chances are you have admin rights.

Go to the control panel --> User Accounts and set a password for your account

You can also enable guest or add a user to the pc with "Limited Privileges" They can use every program but they cannot install programs. However they can download and clutter up your pc.

2.
you can set a password to your screen saver, however they could reboot the pc to bypass this.

I would password your acccount, and log off when not using the pc.

Opt to have a password on your screensaver.

Of course, you don't say which operating system you are running so we all have to guess.

Its pretty similar for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows and Linux's KDE though.

Just right-click on the desktop, go to screen savers, and tick the password box.

Yes - its that simple! :)
