The loaches will work if they are the size of the Oscar or bigger, Tetras and Guppies will become good food for the oscar/not tank mates. If you only have a 10 gallon, don't even get the Oscar. Wait till you get the 70.

The tetras and guppies will become food for the oscar. The loaches will do fine. You definitely need a bigger tank as both the oscar and loaches get pretty big.

They follow the basic fish rule that all fish follow. Big fish eat small fish. My point....Oscars will eat anything smaller than they are if they think they can get into their mouths. As they grow the only real compatible fish will be fish bigger than they are or other Oscars of the same size or slightly bigger or smaller, nut not to far on either extreme, because they are cannibals and will eat smaller Oscars as well..........

Your oscar will definately eat them. Oscars are agressive fish and need to be kept with other agressive fish, not community fish like guppies and tetras. You should get south american cichlids to go with your oscar. African cichlids require different pH levels than the south americans. Just a warning, he will likely outgrow your 70 gallon in a couple of years, mine did. I had to buy a larger aquarium way sooner than I had planned.

i have just about the same thing as u . i ahve a 15 gallon tank with 2 oscar fishes 2 neon tetras and 4 guppies. The oscar fish constanly nips on the little guy's fins and tries to eat them but never seriously damages them nor eat them. so i really dont know wut to tell u but if ur getting a 70 gallon tank then i guess its ok but i wouldnt exeed more then 2 oscar fishes

Your best bet is to just stick to the oscars. Oscars are a very aggresive fish and will only eat littler fish. They have a tendancy to overcome the tank so having other breeds is almost out of the question. You could talk to someone at the pet store and see what kinds of fish that they recommmend having with them. My experience is Oscars will eat your other fish!

When the oscar gets bigger, he'll eat anything he can fit in his mouth. You'd be better off keeping the oscar by himself in the 10 gallon and keep the 70 gallon for a community tank. Your local aquarium store can help you out with which fish are compatible.

Guppies are lunch, tetras will be expensive lunch, and clown loaches will get picked at, but proabably eaten when the oscar is big enough to get it into its mouth. You need to mix oscars with other cichlids, not community fish. Jack dempseys, firemouth cichlids, blue acaras, larger green severums, (avoid green terrors, red devils and other overly aggressive cichlids.. also DONT mix south american cichlids with african cichlids..africans are too aggressive, and will probably kill your oscar.

No, those choices wont work. Oscars will eat just about any other fish that will fit in their mouth. Pacu's do ok with oscars. I have been told that cichlids will as well but in my experience (I've tried it twice) the cichlids were too aggressive.

The oscar might choke on the clown loach, the others should go down OK. PeeTee
