There's nothing wrong with being Irish, just like there's nothing wrong with being any other ethnicity. You have to get over the comments from people though. As you know, they're called stereotypes. They've existed for centuries and will more than likely continue to exist. I'm Spanish, Arabic, and a bit Irish myself. Hispanic women are known in america for having too many kids, and arabs are known as terrorists, and that's on top of the irish drinking one. Just try not to let it bother you, and inform your little cousins of the good things about the Irish people.

Most people are fools and babble the first things that come to mind about anyone's ethnicity.

You can make your little cousins proud to be Irish by telling them about their cultural heritage. The greatest artists/musicians are all Irish/Irish American. Want examples? James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, William Butler Yeats, Morrissey (of the Smiths), Brendan Behan, Shane MacGowan, Sinead O'Connor, Eugene O'Neill, Sean O'Casey, Christy Brown, Johnny Rotten (Lydon), F. Scott Fitzgerald.. ad infinitum. Check out "Celtic Woman" for some brilliant Irish female musicians.

Also the Irish built a huge portion of the U.S., railroaders, engineers, also cops, firemen, politicians, athletes, a President...so the best way is to teach your cousins a bit of their cultural heritage little by little and they will begin to appreciate it.

Sadly, there's no much you can do to stop people teasing you. Just ignore it, you know not all Irish drink a lot, so just ignore louzy, prejudiced comments. As for your cousins, maybe you, or their parents should talk to them and tell them, people will say stupid stuff and tell them that's not true etc, you know, explain them.

You can always confront people who say bad stuff, and tell them they don't know about it and that they're ignorant for speaking of things they've only seen on TV and whatnot, but most of the times, you'll be waisting your time, some people like to be mean, just for the sake of it, don't worry they'll get what they deserve.

Just remember that if they say ALL Irish drink a lot, or things like that, is only because of a)racism b)prejudice and last but not least c) IGNORANCE, the world is full of it, ignorant people, not willing to look further than what's showed to them in TV, or what their parents teach them, very sad, but true.

You know better just ignore them, and keep in mind you'll grow up just the way you want to grow up! Good luck.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being Irish, and anybody who thinks otherwise is plain stupid. People love to stick to stereotypes, so that's probably where the whole drinking-all-day thing is coming from. Just hit them back with stereotypes if you want, or ignore the people who say that. Also, try to make your cousins feel proud of their culture! =)

First of all......there is nothing wrong with being Irish...those are just steyotypes that pll make up about heritages and other races...for exaample: most people think asian people are just a big bunch of nerds and smart people...that is so not true! That is a steryotype and most asians arent that smart anyway and they're all crazy and bla bla bla lol.

Second of all....there is nothing u can do about it, people will always discrimate and judge others...u cant stop it...its what makes the world go around :). Just ingore it and dont listen to wat u hear and dont judge other races

You need to tell these people that they are iggnorant for thinking people of a certain heritage/nationality/race etc. are all the same. Thats like saying all black people like rap or all mexicans drink margaritas. Tell them that you dont appreciate it and if they keep saying things that bother you, you might as well not hang around them if they cant respect you.

Irish people rock. everyone around here wants to be irish. all those people that wear green on st. Patrick's day? yeah, most of them aren't Irish. We have our own holiday that everyone celebrates. how cool is that? People that makes fun of you are just jealous. Ignore them.

That is just one of those things where people have watched to much tv. Just like most others in the real world. Where are you that people would tell you this?
