The only time I can think of is in the Bible when Judas bought a field with the "blood money" for betraying Jesus and hung himself and his guts spilled out. That implies that his head came off.

It would hurt no more than the usual hanging. It has not occurred in quite a while. Hangmen in this country were professionals and knew their business. The drop was to far for the body weight.

I don't think anyone's head has ever completely come off when they were hanged. If a hanging is done correctly the person's neck should snap on impact like Saddam Hussein.

the only one that i know was in the 1800's when they hung some bad guy cause they mis-wieghed him. If they do it wirte, they head won't pop off but the neck always breaks and the person always dies of asphyxiation.

That I can remember? Not too many people are hanged nowdays. But it was not unheard of in the old west.
