In order:
1. Kentucky...especially toward London/Corbin. And they all descend upon Lexington, Richmond, and Frankfort for jobs!
2. West Virginia...creeps me out, literally
3. Illinois: the southern part, anyway
4. Arkansas
5. Louisiana (the only state of these five I still like, they have a really cool culture)
So, see, the South isn't exactly the MOST redneck part of the world, afterall.

I would also add that the top three states also play host to some very mean, self-centered rednecks.

Ok, I'm in NC, and let me tell you, these people are some of the red-neckiest people I've ever met! (I was raised up north, and now I'm a damn yankee.)
Also, in order to reach the roots to "rednecks" you have to dig deep... down south deep....
Have you ever been to Alabama? My hubby hails from there, and some of the things I've heard, whew! I know you've heard of all the hangings, and abortion/church rampages throughout history. These people, their lack of brains, and guns in hand are not the best of combinations.
Let me clarify, I love NC, and I'd be willing to give living in AL a try. My hubby is also the smartest person I know, (and some of his family) so apparently Alabama didn't ware off onto him too thick!
;o)

I'd put West Virgina first. BTW Indiana is probably a lot more redneck than Illinois. Now that I think about it Indiana wins hands down of all of the midwest states. Ever been to West Terre Haute Indiana?

I am from louisiana and I take it as an insult when people say that louisiana is redneck (or ghetto for that matter). it is a disgrace and I believe that louisiana gets a bad wrap from the movies because of people like Adam Sandler who make louisianians look like uneducated, ignorant people. Louisiana has a very unique culture and we take pride in that culture. It is very insulting and I wish people would stop stereotyping Louisianians to make us look like a bunch of illiterate idiots.

I'm in West Virginia right now. There are some nice places here. You can't really judge a WHOLE state....every state has its good and bad. When you group it all, it just makes you look ignorant.
