i don't think it would be a bad idea. A local minor league team for the roller hockey international (RHI) had cheerleaders. They would stand in the isles of the arena and help get people fired up for the game and during the intermissions they would perform dances and such. it worked out well for them.

however there are problems for ice hockey cheerleaders. for one the cold but that can be dealt with since you are cheering and staying active. You would have to do less traditional things if performing on the ice during intermissions because you would have to be on skates. One of the biggest thing in my opinion is the history and tradition of hockey. Hockey has a great history in many countries. It is part of the culture and tradition and unfortunately that tradition doesn't involve cheerleaders. Cheerleaders may not be a welcome addition to hockey because it is foreign to the sport.

it would be worth a try but may not take off

No way. People want to watch the game not cheerleaders. Where are you going to put them? If they walk up and down the aisles during the game they are blocking the view of the game. It would be different if it were like basketball and football where there are sidelines they could cheer from. There's no room for them in a hockey game.

I'm probably the only guy that's gonna say this but no. 1. That puck hurts. Cheerleader + getting hit with puck = notsogood.com. Secondly, we don't need em' if we have those ice girls scraping up the ice. Lastly, when it comes to hockey, it's just too fast. Cheerleaders could be useful to intermissions, but if we need them, just train the ice girls. Try baseball.

Ew. No thx. As a woman hockey fan, I would find it degrading and feel less welcome in the fan base and at games for my team if hockey became like every other sport and started running its fan base off female sexuality instead of the excitement of the game itself. Besides, who needs cheerleaders for sex appeal in hockey? I think the players are the hottest of any athletes bar none!

Good GOD, no. The last thing hockey needs is idiot girls waving pom poms in front of people who are trying to watch the play. Hockey doesn't have long stoppages, there's no need for them. I've been to a game with cheerleaders and I just about pushed one down the aisle stairs because they were annoying me so much.

I can't see the NHL having cheerleaders, because they would first be their cheering from off the Ice, where no one can see them.

Secondly if they did their cheer leading between periods, it would have to be on the ice and they need to wear skates, possibly hurting themselves.

I think it's funny that all of these girls are posting "GOD NO!". I don't see too many guys against it! I say go for it! The Ducks already use hot girls to shovel snow and shoot t-shirts into the crowd between periods. I say as long as they're out of the way during play it would be a good idea.

No they would get very very cold....who cares if the cheerleaders understand the game they are eye candy and they would distract from the game

Most teams already do... they don't call them cheerleaders though. Ice Girls & The Pack are a few out there. Check out Teams official sites, they all have something with girls with pom poms..

God NO!!!!!! There are enough scantely clad little puck bunnies running around with out giving them pom poms and encouraging them!

People come to the game to see the game and the fans are the cheerleaders!
