XP was previously installed on my laptop. This is a new issue that just started happening this week and I've had my notebook for 8 mos. Apparently one of my drivers is corrupt or missing. The gateway website does not have this download available or any info about it for that matter. I'm having trouble finding any info on this cd/dvd drive.

Normally XP should detect the drive and install a generic IDE driver. Are you sure the drive is functioning properly.

If you needed a driver you would not be able to install Windows XP from a CD.

you can check at the gateway website. They should have a driver section in there support pages (should be free of charge). If it's not there you can try a website like driverguide.com where you can search for driver's by catagory.
