Give them good grades! =) How about curving the finals? You know, the students will appreciate you and you will have a good reputation for being a great teacher! LoL! =)

I did AP English Lit and we didn't have any assignments. We just got the same mark as we did in our regular English class, plus a little bit extra because our teacher liked us. Basically, the only thing we did was write the AP exam. We didn't have classes or prep sessions or anything. I got credit for two university courses just by writing that one exam!

As a student myself, I think that you should use the standard grading scale:
90-100 A.....etc...
Since they are AP though, make them do extra projects to "earn" their "A". When I took AP Spanish, we had to translate portions of Don Quixote (spelling?)

Take a Statistics course and learn about normal distributions and z scores. I recommend a Psychology or Decision Sciences Statistics class.

You can't go wrong with using the bell shaped curve. 20% low = D's or F, 60% C or D and then 20% in A and B.

Actually, there are AP guidelines that should give you accurate answers to all of your teaching questions. Good luck!

80% test (at least a third on the final) 20% homework.
