I am an aspiring actress, and I've got it all down-I've just can't figure out how to cry on cue. I try to think of sad things that've happened in my past, but I can't master it. Any helpful tips would be gratefully appreciated.

can you yawn on cue? if you can, then you can most certainly use that to cry too because yawning induces crying.

...that was only a joke!

No, seriously if you want to cry then you must EMBODY yourself in your character's agony completely, no pun intended. Otherwise, you can think of something that always makes you cry: a past love, thinking if someone you loved suddenly died, or even a movie that made you cry in the end...

it's tough, but you're an actress, you can do it. As for doing it on cue, don't think of it that way. Think of it as:

Stage is a representation of life, and life is never on cue.

You have to find the "emotions" deep inside you. You cannot sit there and think about crying, you just have to do it. It takes alot of practice but in time you can do it. Don't try so hard. Try thinking about a sad time in your life and go from there. Practice in front of the mirror and see how you your facial expression is and go from there.

Ever since I became a dad, this hasn't been a problem for me. I can cry on cue just by thinking of losing one of my kids.

Terrible to have to think about... but it works.

What i do to cry on cue is i sort of scrunch up my face in a way that i do when im crying...meaning eyebrows pressed down and frowning...then i think about why i would be crying. take for example your grandfather dies. i would scrunch it up and think about all the things i did with him and then tears come to my eyes.

It helps greatly to really get into your character. I'm *not* a way legit actress or anything like that, but in the interpretations I have done, it always helped to say, for example: "Okay, I'm Shelby. I'm arguing with my mother, and I'm mad at her, because she refuses to share my joy. What am I thinking?"
Literally become your character. Align your thoughts with him or her. It should come easily. Good luck.
