Were in a age in which the old generation really doesnt get on the latest interests or any of them for the past few years. With me. Not only my mother complains to me on the way it sounds (since i watch em in japanese fansubbed) but she is pretty much out of tune with any cartoons that are currently around. Simply put: parents have grown themselves out of cartoons. Well, not all. Only ones that only watched cartoons at a certain time in their young age. Now, adults who have spent most their life involved with cartoons would most likely understand anime. It really depends on how your parents were brought up through animation. Unlucky for you, you got the average ones that just dont understand. And you cant blame them. Just be happy that they dont understand. Cause a good percentage of americans dont understand anime neither.

I am the parent of a boy that is WAY into anime, and I don't see the problem. Your parents have probably never sat down and watched an episode of any of your shows, so they are relating it all to those "Speed Racer" cartoons we had back in the 70's (and they were pretty bad). They probably also think of them as "kid shows" because they are in animated format, even though they might like "Family Guy". I have had enough exposure to his shows now that I see what he likes about them. I even make it a point to sit down and watch "Inuyasha" with him so I can try to share in his interests as much as I can. Your parents might never understand your interest in what they think is "trash", but as long as they support any of your interests or hobbies, you'll be okay. Try not to let it get you down. Parents and teens always have something to clash over, so you're lucky if this is the only thing.

My daughter and I love anime. We watch it all the time, then have a great time discussing it. My son doesn't like it, but he had a girl who was really into anime stalking him and that kind of turned him against anime. My husband likes to pretend he doesn't like it, but we got him interested in Bleach. Everyone else I know thinks I am way to old to be watching cartoons, but too bad for them.
I am sorry your parents don't like your hobby. Try to remember how it feels when you are a parent and don't do the same to your kids.

My dad doesn't care, but my mom doesn't like it. She grew up for a couple of years in Japan and found out about the sexual and violent stuff. She doesn't want me to watch it, but after watching anime for many years, she just ignores it.
