first of all, do you notice a change in your vision? if my contacts are out I know, my vision is very blurry. If you can't tell I would suggest laying a washcloth in your bathroom sink and running a small stream of cool water from the corner of your eye closest to your nose outward across your open eye, you will have to hold your eye open your nose will be closet to the faucet, or use a glass full of water, tilt your head and pour the water in a small stream from the nose corner of your eye and let it run across your eye. Important to get the water underneath the top and bottom eyelid in case the contact is stuck there. This should wash your contact out if it is in there and it will land on the washcloth, don't make the stream very forceful just enough to run across your eye, about 10 minutes the cool water will also help the pain. If your eye is still hurting you then I would suggest bandaging the eye with a piece of gauze, about 2in by 2in placed over the closed eye and taped with bandage tape, calling the eye doctor on call or possibly visiting an emergency room. Either way DO NOT put any contacts in that eye until it has been checked out by either your eye doctor or another MD. If your contact is in your eye and you fall asleep in it then you could possibly get corneal abrasions which are small scratches on the eye, corneal erosion or ulcers where the cornea actually starts to erode or ulcerate or any other types of eye problems or you may not have anything happen at all. I would err on the side of caution, try rinsing your eye several times and if you are still have pain or worried then call dr or go to e.r. You don't want to mess with this to long.

are they soft or hard lenses?
If they are hard lenses you should be able to see it, if it gets stuck anywhere in your eye you will have to pick it off and it will leave a red ring there, but that will go away.
If you are wearing soft lenses, put some saline in your eye to moisten it, close your eye and rub your eye gently to move the contact around, if you have a magnify mirror you should be able to see the contact... use your thumb and forefinger and with gentle pressure you push back on your eye and bring the thumb and forefinger together, this should catch the lense and you can pull it out from your eye.
Another way is to use your middle finger and find the lense and slide it down to the bottom of your eye, pull your lower lid and take the lense out there.
I have fallen asleep with my daily lenses in too, if you put in some saline to moisten them and take them out they and you will be fine, don't get paranoid over it.
If you can't see it ask someone else if they can see it.. they are not all that hard to see, especially if you have them look from your profile, they show really good then.
I hope I have been of some help to you. I have been wearing contacts since the hard ones came out, love the soft contacts, nothing like them!!
Good Luck.

Try closing the other eye from the one your not sure whether the contact is in or not. If things are really blury, chances are it fell out. If things are clear then your eye is probably just dry so its hard to get the contact out. If thats the case, try giving your eye a little rest and trying again in a couple of minutes, also you can try using eye drops, or a drop of contact solution. Don't use water. Lastly, sleeping with your contact in will not kill you, your eye will just be even dryer than it is now in the morning, and it may be even harder to get the contact out. I've slept with my contacts in before though, and i'm not supposed to either.. One night won't kill you i promise. Just relax and try again in a little. Good luck!

Are they soft or gas permeable? If they are soft, don't rub the eye. If the eye is hurting when you try to take it out, it is probably out. You can try to put in another contact and then take it out. Both will come out when you take out the other. Your bestr bet is you can go to the Emergency Room. They have contact lens suction cups to solve that problem and since your eyes are sore to touch, someone else's (the doctors) eyes can help tell you if it is there. Nothing will happen if you sleep in them, but the lens and eye can get awful scratchy.

This happened to me once when I thought I hadn't removed one, when I had. What happened was I wiped my finger on a towel (where I found the contact the next day), but in the meantime, since I thought it was still in, I kept trying to get it out, and yes it did hurt. I was actually scraping my iris (the colored part of your eye) since the lens wasn't in. This happened in the evening after hours also. The next day I called the Optometrist and he told me to come in. She looked in my eye and told me it wasn't in there, which was a relief because I thought it might've slipped behind my eyeball. When I got home I looked around on the bathroom floor and on the sink and the towel and found it on the towel. So you might want to look around your bathroom. But do call your optometrist tomorrow to make sure it's not in there. Good luck.

relax, i had that exact problem. i sleep with my contacts in for weeks at a time. You cant find it but it hurts real bad right? happened to me too. I went to the eye doctor the next day and he took it out, apparently i had rubbed my eye too hard and the contact actually folded in half and was off to the side of my eye ball. just try and keep your eye moist and see the doctor tomarrow

I would guess that they fell out but just to make sure run your eyes under water and see if one falls out and if not they fell out.
The worst that could happen for one night is eye irradiation but in the morning go straight the eye doctor.

To c if they r in 1. Wet your finger and put it to the colored part of your i. 2.Move your finger around and if u c anything moving in there it should mean your contacts r in.
I really don't think much would happen if u left them in at night. If u do your supposed 2 leave them out the next day. {Least that's what I have 2 do'}

They could be on the inside of your head touching your eye. Or they could be on the ground. I assume that they are soft lenses? Move your eyes around alot in different directions. Splash some water in your eyes. I hope that helps.

You could go blind. Rest and don't panic for a moment put some eye drops if you have one to rewet them. If it's in it should go back into place. Your other eyes should be able to tell if it's in your eyes you wont miss it, it can't go anywhere else.
DO NOT WASH YOUR CONTACTS WITH WATER!!!
