Judging from the answers you've received, not a lot of people seem to agree with you! I was 11 years of age in 1961 and remember, with the utmost clarity, the shocking news that JFK had been assassinated. The world changed, for the worse, the day that happened. Coincidentally, I saw a TV programme last night about the brinkmanship between Russia, the USA and Cuba during the 'Bay of Pigs' incident. There was a genuine fear that nuclear warfare would break out, resulting in the annihilation of our planet.
Of course, there were lots of good things about the 'swinging 60's' - like mini-skirts, the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, The Eagles, Beach Boys, etc. Musically speaking, I seem to be in a 1960-70's time warp. There was also a negative backlash from all the promiscuity, free-love and 'flower-power' of the 60's - people dropping out of society, taking mind-bending drugs, not taking responsibility for their actions and freeloading. Nonetheless, I loved being a teenager during the 60's. The world was exciting and change was in the air. The 80's and 90's seemed to usher in a much more aggressive and materialistic attitude. Compared to the 60's and 70's, the world today seems to be much bleaker and a more dangerous place.

I was born in 1984 and I don't know if all that much good things have happened in that time. Personally I would like it if it was still like the 80's. I love the 80's! films, music everything. I want a mullet and wear Bermuda shorts again, when Michael Jackson was kind of normal! lol. I was only little then but I did enjoy my childhood. By the way I think some bad things have happened in that time, but look back at the history of the world and we will all see that we live alot more comfortably than people of the past did. I wouldn't say these decades have been worse. Just because technology is better so we can see what happens it doesn't mean it never happened before! Imagine if we lived in Genghis Khans days, or the days of the bubonic plague, or when we all lived 'till we were about 30. Imagine living in the middle ages and we all had black teeth and poured our pee into the streets. My grandfather fought in WWII and the other was a coal miner who lost his leg, I wouldn't wanna swap places with them.I think life is pretty great!

I was born in February 1982. I don't feel privileged to have witnessed anything in human history since I was born. War after war, world famine, violence and the list goes on. More bad than good I'm afraid.

I think the best period in our recent history was after WW2 when everyone was full of hope. Unfortunately although the sixties produced great music it started a rebellion which encouraged drug use and sexual immorality. Today we have many labour saving gadgets, food has never been cheaper( although taxes have never been higher) abortion- or to give it its proper name- Child murder is abhorrently high. Child killing pills are available to anyone, conveniently 'camouflaged' as 'the morning after pill'. Why has child killing become an acceptable form of contraception in our society? Pornography is shown now quite openly on tv. I will leave it there as I'm getting tired and despondent. Goodnight all.

also born in 1961, we have lived through one very changing times. lives have been shaped by baby boomers, hippies, the me generation, yuppies, rappers and grunge rockers. have seen an up swing on how multimedia can change lives so fast. seen technology run rampant into every part of our beings. though the downsize has been had to live through disco twice. also remember the moon landings at the tender age of 7.

there is a curse, it says may you live in interesting times.
That is anything that will seem interesting in,say 200 years. The only thing in history is war and disaster that holds any real interest. The only thing that science as acheived is going to the moon, after that it just made everything smaller.pretty boring 50 years.

I was born in 1959, and would have preferred to have been born in a calmer time. Republican Dad and hippy sister yelling at each other all the time. Who needs it?

I was born in 1968.
My uncle survived the Vietnam war but stepped on a land mine. Everything is intact but his unit is ribbed and won't rise to the occasion.
