It is acceptably normal to talk to your pet because your pet's role is companionship. I think talking to your pets is a healthier way of having a special bond without resorting to cold loneliness in which feels terrible. It is pretty normal, but I would not get too obsessed because you may also need to talk to humans too. It is not strange, I think it is psychologically healthy to have someone beside you and to express your feelings. That is where the term "man's best friend" came from.

Talk to your pet. In our society, a person's pet is just like another human member of the family! Talk away.

Perfectly normal to me. We talk to all our pets like we would humans, probably even more. They seem to understand what you say most of the time. Our wolf mix talks to us as well, she'll say a perfect hello when we come. She calls my husband by his nickname, clearly. Some of our cats have even learned to say the word out.

I do it allllll the time... and in my opinion, my dog is the one friend that I can tell anything in the whole world to. And no matter what they will be listening... and you never have to worry about them telling a soul. It also helps get things off my chest, and gives me company. I fell a little weird too [about talking to my dog] but for you and I... I guess its normal!

In my house, that is normal behavior. Every animal I've ever had has been talked to as if they understood what I said and frankly, I believe they do. Of course now that we only have parrots, the animals are talking back. LOL

Dogs only recognise a few words like thier name, sit, stay, bad dog, good dog, etc.,and of course the sound of the can opener!
a dog responds to the TONE of your vouce and body language.
Its not strange at all in western society.
Its very strange in other parts of the world where they eat dog.(sorry, but I'm being realistic)
Google" dog whisperer" That guy (Ceaser Milon?)Is amazing,He really understands dogs needs and how to communicate with them properly.
There are mistakes we make in how we talk and treat our dogs that can have very negative results.
Talking to him or her is pretty harmless for the most part.
(remember they really don't undrestand most of the words no matter if you THINK they do,just the tone of your voice)

I sure hope it's normal or I need to be commited! I talk to my dog and 2 cats like people. They all 3 enjoy laying down and watching me cook, so I tell them about what I'm doing (i.e. "now you guys I have to put 1 C. of sugar in and stir.....etc.)
Guess I'm wierd.

I'd say it was Normal. I mean, I see people everyday talking to thier Baby's as if they could understand them, so why not the dog too?

I think it is very normal. I talk to my dog sometimes like he is a person. I have a big dog, pitbull/ american bull dog mix, and he thinks he is a lapdod, so he is silly anyway.

I always talked to my pets, regardless of what they were. Guinea Pig (AWWW soo cute), cats, dogs, birds, and such. They understand me because they can answer my questions by actions. :) It's awsome! :) SO YES - even if it ISN'T considered to be NORMAL, who cares! Since when is being normal any fun!
