My hubby is a biomedical engineer calibrating/repairing X-ray machines in hospitals. He was trained in the military for free, and now works for a huge company making $80,000+/year. Of course, that's after 20 years of experience but even the new guys are making around $50,000. He goes from hospital to hospital when they're having trouble with their MRI, CAT scan machines, etc. and figures out what the problem is. He loves it.

Some companies to consider are GE, Phillips, or even just individual hospitals.

You should check out a web site called livecareers.com and take the career test. Live careers is a great resource, and if you pay the additional $25. you can get a VERY thorough report on where your strengths and weaknesses are as well as a list of careers in that particular field. It gives pages of resources and tools that you can access on-line at the library and purchase. It's really a great eye opener! I was shocked with the results of my report. But the results are at the very least insightful. I hope you take the test. It's well worth the time! You should also be able to check out your states department of labor and get a list of careers in the field and what kind of income potential they offer.

There are some small silicon valley startups that are bound for glory right about now. Try asking around there.
