It depends on how noisy the traffic is. I live right near a couple of major motorways and a busy train line and we actually don't hear too much noise at all. You need to weigh up the pros and cons, and decide whether the con is worth the pros the house offers, i.e. is it a nice area, and so on.
Maybe have a look around and see what else is available, that might help you make your decision.

I would not buy there as the value of property near a freeway rarely are as good of an investment as another house that has a better location! the freeway house would also be hard to sell especially in a less than thriving housing market. I estimate from experience that the price would be 15 to 25% less than a comparable house that was over 1 mile from a freeway. Remember the real estate proverb of "location, location location."

Yes, unless you are going to let your baby wander around loose outside. And it should have a great re-sale value when the time comes if it's that accessible to the main highways. Or you could move way out in the sticks and starve to death on low wage jobs (like I'm doing :P )
