People are listening, they're just not responding.

And honestly, it's not hard to see why. While he does speak some truth, he's a hypocrite. He gets on TV, and stands in front of a huge audience, and goes on a tirade against his own people. Admittedly, there are alot of things wrong with the Black community especially, but the problem with Bill Cosby is, he talks about it. And you don't talk about, BE about it. As soon as he finishes his speech, he disappears, and we don't hear a peep from him. If he wants to help his people, just HELP them. He should start in his backyard. Help the unwed mothers, talk to the young black men; he should do something. Instead, he gets on national television, and rants about all things Black.

The lack of action on his part takes away from his truthful message. I mean, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. So if he's sincere, he should start taking an active part in his community, instead of raving so much about it.

I didn't actually get to read the book below which I've cited as a source to my comments as I didn't have enough money on me at the time to buy it, but the premise of the book seemed to be, from the few pages I did read, that there are a wide variety of causes for the situations which some people believe have made it difficult, if not impossible, for many blacks to succeed in America, and that Cosby took a rather simplistic answer to a complex problem. He may still be right (who am I to say one way or the other?) but I do think this should garner a lot more discussion than to simply say "Bill Cosby spoke true. Why is nobody listening?" because I think it wouild be just as valid to argue, at this point anyway, "Bill Cosby threw out a few possibly undeserved punches. Certainly not everybody within the black culture believes in the things which he was chastising. This doesn't even include the facts that whites could grab a hold of what he said and, if an unequal society still exists, continue to perpetuate it without taking any of their own well-deserved blame for some of it."

In other words, I think it is plausible to understand both sides of the argument, but I lack enough personal knowledge or understanding of the issues involved to say which is more likely to be the case. In addition, I should also add that I am white so what he said, while it made the news, did not exactly stick negatively to white culture as much as it stuck negatively to black culture.

Bill Cosby has the guts to say what Jesse Jackson doesn't. Bill Cosby's the bomb, he just tells it like it is. And you know what his point is, his point is to get people to think. Some people may get angry but I pray that many more people may think about what he said. To change people need to be faced with the cold hard facts, not the fantasy lala land blame the cops for everything.

Bill Cosby is awesome! I heard what he said a long while back and completely agree with his message. It's too bad there's so many stubborn minds unable to take it in as good constructive criticism and something to learn from.

This is kinda old news, but I think people should listen to Bill. He has the authority to say something like that and he passionately wants to help his community no matter what the critics say.

I'm just a whitey, though, I wonder what black posters make of him
