Standard form means that the equation should be written:
ax + by = c
So, for number 1, since the slope is undefined and it goes through the point (5,-3):

(1)x + (0)y= 5
or simply
x=5

for number 2, since it has a y-intercept of -2 (point (0,-2)) and goes through the point (3,1) you can calculate slope by using the two points:

(1 - (-2)) / (3-0) = (3) / (3) = 1

So, with slope and the y-intercept we get:

y= x - 2

and that can be written in the standard form of

-x + y = -2

however, for standard form, the coefficient on the x variable (defined as "a") is supposed to be positive, so the answer should be:

x + (-1)y = 2

A line with an undefined slope is parallel to the y-axis and so has the same value of x every where. Since this line passes through (5,3) it has an x value of 5 and so x=5 is the proper equation.

y= mx+b
y=mx -2 [since y intercept = b = -2]
1 = m(3) - 2 [since line goes through point (3,1)
3m = 3
m=1
So y = x - 2 is slope intercept form
x-y-2 =0 is standard form

1) Undefined slopes are vertical lines, so x = 5. If the slope was zero, then the line would be y = -3.

ANSWER: x = 5

2) y = mx -2;
Slope is difference of y's over difference of x's
((1-(-2))/(3-0)) = ((1+2)/(3-0)) = (3/3) = 1

ANSWER: y = x - 2 (plug in the coordinates to confirm the equation)

1. -3 = 5m + b
5m = b+3
m = (b+3)/5
y = x(b+3)/5 + b

2. 1 = 3m -2
3m = 3
m=1

y=x-2

1) x=5

2) (5,-3)(0,-2)

-2-(-3) / 0-5
1/-5

y= -1/5x-2
