DOGS! they are man's / woman's best friend. they're playful, cute, and they'll warn you when something is wrong. Cats, on the other hand, just lie around, sleep all day, and eat. Plus there's the fur!

I used to have a cat when I was a kid and I thought he was the greatest. I considered myself a cat person. I got a dog 2 years ago, no contest. Cats just don't care about you (at least for the first 5-10 years), dogs quickly become obsessed with their owners. Seeing my dog wag her tail excitedly when I get home from work is a good feeling. Only one draw back, if your cat dies, you're going to be upset for a few days. If your dog dies, you may never recover. Seriously.

I think it depends on your lifestyle! I have had cats for some 12 years now and I have loved them all very much. I have never had the pleasure of taking one to PetsMart or putting a harness on one to take for a walk. But, I have spent some very bad times in my life with cats, and I swear they can just suck that negative energy right out of you.

On the other hand, we recently got a very LARGE breed dog. I have started taking her on walks - or rather, she walks me! We spend a lot of time playing indoors and out. She is a blast, in fact, we are about to get another one just like her.

Cats or dogs, you should really research which is best for your likes, dislikes, wants, needs, etc. They are both excellent pets and the best of companions!

Dogs can definitely be better. They are, and show affection. The wagging tail shows how affectionate they are.

Cats, on the other hand, can seem too independent. They can act like they are God's gift to humans.

There are some detractors to dogs, though.

The crotch-sniffers and leg humpers are definitely a minus.

I am going to say cats. Dogs can be tough if you do not cook them just right. Cats, by comparison, are usually very tender due to the fact that all they do is sit around on their fat butts & shed on my furniture.

I love both but me and my dog are like sisters. Snisket and I are in dog 4-h and we work so well together because I spend so much time with her. Tricks to get your dog to do what you want is to not hit it but keep a calm voice, its ok to say whos voice but in words not fists or whatever it is, LOVE YOUR DOGS AND THEY WILL LOVE YOU BACK!!! thats more than you asked but... yeah
