Women can, girls can't. There is a big difference.
Men do the same thing with respect to a female and her appearance. When males are young they want the perfect female that other men drool over. Its all about looks. But when he is really ready to settle down, his ideas change. He wants a woman who represents everything he believes a woman should (typically somewhat like his mother, lol)
Females do the same thing. When they are young, they think they want the apparent "alpha" male. But once they grow up, they start to look for the good man, the provider and lover.
The saying "its what's inside that counts", is true from females who are willing to grow up and fall into true love. They realize its not what is on TV that we want, its reality we crave.

Loud, rude, bullies I think are like puppies whining for attentions. The girls which are attacted to them are usually no better, in bed as well. To be frank. While the older dogs always observe situation more clearly. That is life, it is fair. Some woman deserve fake confidence, i am not going to blame them. Some of them are crazy.

I think the answer lies in how the woman views herself. If she believes that she needs a "manly man" who knows how to "deal with her" then she may not care for nice, confident person you describe. She herself has a high level of insecurity. There are women who do believe that they deserve a dignified man, and those are women who have a high level of self-respect. These are just personal observations, in the end I truly believe that some people can't help who they fall in love with.

What kind of car does he drive? No, I'm serious! I know it's a generalization, but I swear, guys who are faking confidence drives expensive or sporty cars. Guys who are confident and don't have to flaunt it drive reasonable cars.
OK, now, getting beyond the fun generalization.
I can usually tell when a guy is faking confidence. But then again, I'm exposed to a lot of people on a regular basis, and I have to judge character early on. It's a part of my job description, really. It just takes time to fine tune your character sensor and your BS detector.

I've never had the experience you describe. I find men to are self assured, together and gentlemanly in their actions are better companions than the others you describe. Perhaps self confidence and self assuredly are being misunderstood for arrogance and thus can be intimidating. You just need to meet someone who appreciates you for being you....don't settle for less.

I think it has to do with the type of woman. Personally I find a loud, rude man to be a complete turnoff. I want a man who is educated, polite and respectful. What woman in her 'right' mind wants a pig?

I guess my answer to you would be.. Some women just don't understand men.. or they are just so into fixing up lost dogs they miss the real deal.. It's really sad, but have been there and done that.. Learned from my mistakes though..

I don't view loud, rude behavior as a sign of confidence. I suppose it takes maturity to tell the difference.
