The law says "all or nothing". The only acceptable way to do this is if The African American employees used comp or vacation time to cover the holiday AND all employees were given the same option. Short of that you have grounds for a complaint.
Another example would be if employees were told that only christians would be getting Christmas off and unless your religion celebrated that holiday, you'd have to work - not legal.

You can check with your local Department of employment standards in your area to confirm, but I am sure you will get a similar response.

Yes it is. Today is considered a National Holiday not a Black Holiday. If all the black people at your job got the day off then everyone else should have too. We have that same problem at my work. Half the emplooyees are Jewish and the rest of us arent.

The entire "Holiday" is racist. Why don't the white people start recognizing George Washington's Birthday as a national day off, have a parade and party!?! ....because we don't cry loud enough for the Government to listen.

I find that hard to believe! MLK Day is a FEDERAL holiday. Not just the black kids were out of school. They ALL were.

Well think of it this way...They have gone thru alot more than our race. This day is also very sentimental for alot of them because Martin Luther King was such a wonderful man.It wasn't that long ago when the civil rights movement was taking place. So believe it or not they deserve this. This day is for the black people.

That is rather racist, since it is taking out that the race of one gets a day of, while the race of others don't. Especially because just because blacks got freedom doesn't mean it didn't do anything for whites. And Mr. Luther King Jr. did more than free blacks, who was an inspirational speaker, and he spoke of peace, and things like that. He could of affected all races. You could probably file something because of that, but only if it bothered you. However, I would, because of the principal of it, not that I would really mind. That's my opinion though, do what you want.
