I am 23 years old. Seven months ago I decided to pick up a cigarette. I was at Denny's with my two friends. They were both smoking, and I decided that I would try. I then asked if I could have a smoke, they said sure. Its something that I did on my own, their was no peer presure involved. Do people that smoke have a right to tell me that I was stupid for picking up smoking and do they have a right to tell me that I should quite, if they smoke and don't quite, or are they hypocrites?

I smoke been smoking 30 years and I have tried to quit and I hate the smell, the addiction and the need. People who are telling you to quit so that you won't be in the same boat as them. Addicted and trying to quit is a nightmare. I tell young people you are going to wish one day you never started and if you aren't to hooked try to stop now or you will regret it. They are not hypocrites because they continue to smoke and tell you not to they are hopelessly addicted and wish they could stop one person from becoming what they now are.

They're not hypocrites exactly. I smoke so I'm not preaching but I hate seeing young people smoking. I think back to when I was their age and would LOVE to tell them that they will get addicted, it will affect their health and they will always be poor. You're 23, an adult. It's up to you what you do.

I think it's a crazy argument to say that if someone else isn't going to stop, then I'm not going to either. You've only been doing it a few months. I've been doing it 14 years (half my life) and I hate it. Smoking is crap but if you want to do it, I won't stop you.

They dont have the right to tell you not too but they are probably trying to help. I smoke its not that im a hypocrite. Its that once your addicted its really hard to quit. I know all the health risks involved with my decision to smoke but know when i try to quit its really hard. When i give up i smoke more than before. Im young but i can see the effects of smoking my skin is drier than before. People might not want you to go through that and are only trying to help but its your decision if you want to get hooked on nicotine.

They probably are hypocrites if they advise you to quit but won't attempt it themselves. As far as telling you that starting smoking is stupid - absolutely they have a "right" to say it. They know better than any non-smoker or new smoker just how bad and addictive it is.

It really does not matter who tells you listen to them, this is going to sound harsh but what the fu*k were you thinking. You are pretty much making sure you die slowly and painfully or fast but way too early. But if it works for you try crack same basic idea just speeds everything along
