You have to find the middle of your cloth, your design will show you the center of your project. Start counting the stitches from there. If you are doing plastic canvas just follow the design and count spaces.
Start out with something simple and easy. Don't get discouraged if you have problems. Just keep trying and eventually you will get it figured out. Good luck and have fun with it.

look at your patern.
look at the cloth you are going to sew onto.
find the center of both.
now count the stitches over and up from the center.
start sewing.
