I got to see the baby today found out that im 6 weeks, baby looks like a small dot lol. Do you prefer a male or female doctor? My doctor set me up for a payment plan, for everythi he is going to do, and the delivery and an ultra sound each visit is going to run us just about 2500.00 thats with out the hospital. Is this a good price or about average...or even high? Thanks

i'm not sure about the prices. i'm on medicaid but i do know that 2 of my doctor's visits cost $650. i prefer having a male doctor because they are more sympathetic to us pregnant women because they have no idea how we actually feel and most women doctors have children and they know how it is.

Why is he going to do an u/s each visit? Is there some complication? U/S should not be a routine procedure. I know it's fun to see the baby, but I would be concerned about exposing baby to that may u/s without a good reason.

I prefer midwives to OB's. They are less intervention happy, spend more time with you answering your questions and are with you through all of labor and birth instead of just showing up to catch.

I think the price you were quoted is in the normal range for care. Note that this probably doesn't include the lab fees for any tests you have done.

That sounds really high, dont you have insurance? I would try to buy your own insurance it would have to be cheaper than that. My doctors office just charge 100.00 a visit. I am not sure about ultrasound. I prefer a female doctor, I had a male doctor but he just wasnt sympathic to womens pain. I think a female doctor understands how we feel. I have heard that a delivery cost ten thousand dollars at a hospital. If you dont have complications have you considered a home birth? You still pay the doctor fees but not the hospitals.

Wow that sounds like alot to me. I could afford to have even one at that price. I have a female doc. I would not let a male doctor in the room when I had my two girls. I have Medicaid and if it was not for that, I couldn't afford all my doc bills. But I do know that mine only range $150-$200 per visit plus if they run any tests it could be a little more. Not anywhere near 2500. I would call around and get other prices. Good luck and congrats on your baby.

That sounds like alot! I had to pay 850 for all of my Dr. visits including delivery, and 7000 for the hospital. I'm not sure how much my insurance paid, though. And I had three sonograms. One when I found out I was pregnant, to confirm due date, one at 4 months to make sure he was developing properly, and one at 38 weeks because my belly was unusually big and my doc wanted to see what was going on.Turned out, I had a 10 pounder, with a plethora of fluid!

That's what we had been billed. Actually, it was a C-section, and it was about a grand more than that. The 3-day hospital stay was $3,600 -- and that was just for the baby. A male doctor had delivered, but all of the doctors in the network had been a part of the pregnancy. My wife preferred female doctors.

I just had a baby 8 weeks ago in Idaho, here's how my $$$ got broken down (I had a c-section):

Doctors visits and delivery--$3700
Hospital for me--$6700
Hospital for baby--$1170
Anesthetic--$1200
tubal ligation--$310
Pediatrician visits to hospital--$305
Additional surgeon to assist c-section--$1200
ultrasounds (3)--$1300

...having a healthy baby--priceless!

Even with our insurance paying 70% it cost us about $4000 total out of pocket.

I'm assuming this means that you don't have insurance. Is this correct? The actual birth at the hospital typically costs tens of thousands but it thankfully covered by most insurance. You should check into getting some kind of public health like Medicaid if you don't have insurance.

if you want to cut out some of the cost, there is no reason to have an ultrasound at every doctor's appointment. with my first child, my insurance paid $3000 and then we had to cover the rest. I think we owe somewhere around $10,000 still. an epidural will run you around $1,500. normal delivery charges are around $2,500. it sounds like you are getting out pretty cheap.

we only had one ultrasound! why do you need so many? our actual delivery ran us about $20,000. Medicaid paid what our insurance did not. Can you get on Medicaid or other ins? I prefer female doc. Mine was fantastic! She was also 38 weeks pregnant herself when she delivered my baby - talk about sympathetic! Congratulations!!!! (I should mention our baby was a preemie, ran up the costs a bit!)
