I work in inbound sales, and I am led to believe that rude people have no idea their behavior is offending. I was speaking to a potential client that cursed on the phone today and was getting obnoxious, and when I told her that I couldn't continue to speak with her if she was going to use that language, she says, "Well, then can I speak to someone that isn't so sensitive and can handle talking to a New Yorker?" I'm a New Yorker and I know better than to start cursing during a business call. I would be embarassed to behave in the way that she did.

From my experience, there are three types of rude people:
1 - Those that see themselves as superior to everyone else, and therefore feel that they are degrading themselves by being polite or following standards of etiquette.
2 - Those with a hidden inferiority complex and act mean to hide their insecurities.
3 - Those who simply don't realize it, often because they were never corrected as children.

Sometimes people realize they have been rude until everything has been said other times they didnt think much of what they did so they dont think its rude (or were not raised to be polite). But definetly that lady was rude and I was born in NY but i know for a fact that i wouldnt put up with her attitude.

No, I'm sure you're right: Rude people (whether from NY or otherwise) generally have no clue. In general, but especially no clue how rude they are.

good point that female was ghetto,no manners i think they dont realize it either kinda like someone with halitosis they might know they have bad breath because they got used to the smell
