I am exclusivly breastfeeding and someone gave me 5 cans of formula as a baby gift! Although I love the thought, it's quite useless to me.

Are there any stores that will take it back or not? I think I rememebr a friend saying they wouldn't but this was like 7 years ago--so maybe I am rememebring wrong.

Have you ever returned unopened formula to a store? If so, what store?

I am a SAHM. No sitter. No formula. I plan to let my child self wean, so he will be on whole milk my then.

I never thought of donating it to charity! LOL What a great idea!

I'd call and and ask. If they don't, donate it to charity.

I bought Alimentum at my doc's request, then we had to switch to Enfamil AR. I did not save the receipt (never though I would be taking it back) and thank God Wal-Mart let me exchange it for the correct stuff. But I only had 2 un-opened cans.
I am sure I will be slammed for saying this, but there is always eBay. A lot of people sell formula on there when their babies wean off early or change brands. Or put an add in the local classifieds, if you have a free one. Lots of people do that do. You won't get full retail price, but you will get something for it. Then you can buy things the baby really needs.

You may want to keep if it the dates are good. I know several people whose babies have weaned themselves from the breast before age 1 and they ended up on formula, if even for a short time.
good luck.

I don't know if you can return them to a store without the reciept. You can try, but I'm not sure. I plan on breastfeeding to, and have also been given formula as gifts from the hospital. Are you planning on working or getting a baby sitter? if you don't pump milk when you leave the baby with someone, you can use the formula as a substitute, or when you are ready to ween you baby off breastmilk, you can use it as a substitute also. If you can't find a place that you can return it to, you could always donate it to a food pantry or daycare...?

In my experience they will only return it with a receipt. This is because many social service agencies give formula away, as does the food bank, and there is an issue with parents returning it for money or other things.

Wal Mart will take it back, I think. Without a receipt, too....

I think your friend was trying to be nice in giving it to you but I don't think people realize that more people are breastfeeding AND even if your baby does go to formula choosing the right one is real hit or miss!!

Try Wal Mart....if they carry that brand I bet they will hook you up!! Worst case scenerio....they'll give you a gift card.

I'm not quite 100% on this b/c I breastfeed mine too but I don't think that they do, for the simple fact that it is a major WIC item and there are so many who would try to abuse that (getting money for something that they didn't buy). I would recommend calling a few stores in your area and asking what their policy is regarding that...

It seems that you should be able to as long as it's not expired....just take it to your local grocery store...make sure they sell that brand...say you rec'd it as a gift and can't use it...they may just give you in store credit but you can use the money to buy something you need...buy something for the lil one:~) .....Good Luck!
