snoring is caused by the posterior portion of the tongue fallin on the posterior of the air passages, to prevent this from happening, sleeping on your side or in the head down positin can help, however when you have a syndrome called Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( aka Pickwickian Syndrome ) no amount of body positioning will help, if you are overweight, feel sleepy during the day, feel tired after sleeping, i suggest you see a sleep specialist , he/she is usually an internist with a specialty in pulmonary medicine and has a subspecialty in sleep medicine... seeing a sleep specialist may be potentially life-saving if you have this syndrome...

Probably you can't fix it on your own. You need to go to a sleep clinic if you are a loud snorer, the sooner the better! I would guess that you have sleep apnea (and people who aren't overweight CAN have it). If you ignore it, sleep apnea can cause heart damage and even death, so it's nothing to just "put up with."

Sleep apnea is treated with the use of a CPAP machine, which is usually fully paid for by insurance. You can't just go out and buy one, as they have to be adjusted to your individual needs, and too much pressure is as bad as too little. This device cures snoring 100% and will also leave you less tired during the day. I would not take a half-hour nap without using mine! Those strips don't work if you have apnea. Surgery is not usually recommended, as results are not generally as good as CPAP.

Yes, going to a sleep clinic is inconvenient, and you'd really rather not bother, but your life may depend on getting prompt treatment. And your bed partner will be soooo happy when you don't snore anymore!

the only natural methods i know of are-

nose strips (people ive known have used them and they are not said to work for everyone),
spray (there's a new one on the market now you can get in boots etc which is said to reduce snoring),
sleeping on your front not side reduces snoring. i know that with my other half!
i think reducing smoking and caffeine etc a little while before bed may help too.

Sleeping on your side. Getting plenty of sleep. The more tired, the more you snore. They have those breathe right nose strips, have no idea if they work. They also have come out with a gargle to lubricate the throat, again have no idea if they work. I found with my husband to roll him to his side and it stops the snoring. Weight loss can help too.
