depends on what youre going to be doing --like hiking or sitting. feel free to correct me if im wrong, but my mommy says trail mix has plenty of tasty nuts and stuff, which can provide salts and stuff to help you process energy better and in some cases provide simple protiens (almonds?), but lacks many essential vitamins, simple and natural sugars and aminos etc. that are found in fruits. fruits mix, however, can give you the runs. (or the opposite, neither of which is pretty, especially in the backcountry.) i would suggest a mixture of both, and throw in some M&M's -- those have everything you need. friggin awesome.
