Boondocks refers to water. A "swampy" area far away from large town or city. I grew up in the "Boondocks" off the Mississippi river in Illinois. The town had a little store on the ground floor of a house and a small post office. Everyone knew everyone. Now, 30 years later, the town is booming!

Have you heard the expression "out in the middle of nowhere?" That's where the boondocks are! Seriously, the boondocks is somewhere way out in the country where you have to drive for miles and miles before seeing even a convenience store.

boondocks is a term used describing way out there or something like that. Like "the boonies" is too.

ex. "I don't want to go all the way to the boonies/boondocks for that."
