They could offer many things, basketball, tennis, football, weight training, swimming, fitness, etc. Usually depends on the school and their resources. After school activities are not included.
Are you still homeschooled? If so, then an after school activity could be used to qualify for PE, depends on how you state it.
Look at the graduation requirements and see what is required. Many states vary in requirements and some states are currently changing their requirements to better prepare students for the future. If you will be going to public school, meet with a counselor who can answer these questions for you.
Remember, high school is a fun time! Enjoy it and don't worry about things. PE can be lots of fun too!

the bad problem is, guys are relenteless to one another. they're relentless in the same way girls are backstabbers to each other. If you go and talk to the PE teacher and senior kids hear about it...that won't make the situation any better. He'll be known for a lot more than "lil balls" and probably harassed about it too. (getting special treatment as some others have suggested will make it worse too...they'll use anything and come up with ANYTHING) The best thing he can do is talk to his teacher when no one is around, like after class and after the older guys have left. (Most teachers should write a hall pass if he's late to his next class...I don't know how his school works...our school needed hall passes to be in the hall during class time) It's a situation that at the moment should get handled by him. It's hard being a freshman, but if things get worse then I would go to the higher ups. But right now he should be the one talking to his teacher and let them be aware of the situation and that it makes him feel uncomfortable. (I can't believe schools still have to shower...we never did that and I just graduated a few years ago)

My school only had PE until 10th grade, but it is different everywhere, I'm sure. We did the presidential physical fitness deal every 6 weeks (run a mile, do sit-ups, pull-ups, etc and try to meet certain criteria- ie do a certain number of sit-ups in a set amount of time.) and the rest of the time, we learned various sports (we had soccer, football, baseball, etc).
Playing a sport had no bearing on whether we took PE, it was a required course.

PE in high school is just a variety of different things such as vollyball and stuff like that . PE is still a requirement so joining the soccer team will not count. *

um im not sure how pe works considering i've never had it. i had either marching band or soccer instead. thats how it works at my high school instead of pe i take soccer. and junior high i took marching band instead. anyway for pe what i've been told is they change and can basically do nothing. they have games and activites ur suppose to do. i think like maybe play some sport, but most people suck at it.

Some high schools let you opt out of PE if you take enough team sports. But it depends on the high school.

Check with your district. Some let athletes out of PE classes and others do not.
