What browser are you using. If it is Internet explorer that has quite a few bugs. I would suggest downloading Firefox and see if you have the same problem. It may not be your laptop but rather the software or in the case of online streaming it may be just your browser. What program do you use to watch the video? Is it only when you watch videos online that it freezes? If you say download a video or watch a DVD does the same thing happen?
If it only happens when you are online try changing your browser or if you want to stick to Internet Explorer (IE) then download the patches from microsoft website as they usually have updated service pack and patches to fix bugs in their software.

First, do you have virus protection and have you been keep up with the latest virus updates?
Second, if you have installed a virus program it may be slowing down the video as it runs the virus software that makes sure there is no virus in the video you are watching.
Third, video takes a lot of bandwidth to download a video and keep it running. It could be that your internet connection is not fast enough to download the video while you are watching it.
Fourth, you need to go to control panel and cut down on the amount of colors you are able to show and cut down on the size of your desktop. Try 800-600 desktop size and 16 million colors. You can change this back once you are off the internet. A fast way to get to you display is to right click on the desktop where there is a place with not icons.
Fifth, you might try hooking you laptop up to a regular monitor and see if that helps with your problem. Remember to look for the right FN key and special screen key, should be on one of the number keys that turns on the monitor you just plugged into.
Sixth, you may have to update the program that is playing the video movie; you can do this over the web.
Seventh, if you have a laptop is a small amount of memory you can be sure that Windows will have a hard time playing movies. For Windows XP you should have a gig of memory built in to do things with video. See if you can upgrade the memory, if you go to Windows Vista you might even need more.
Hope this is of help to you because I could sure use the point!

First off, clean out any junk using - right click on drive c: in windows explorer\properties\disk cleanup.
If you've loaded apps or services since you bought it then switch off any unnecessary ones that start when the pc boots up - start/run/msconfig.exe to do this.
You can also clear memory/processor usage via the Windows Task Manager (usually right clicking on the task start bar and selecting it from the menu).
You may want a program that can clear cluttered memory on-demand - you can get those from download.com.
You could try defragging your hard drive.
fit more memory, increase internet bandwitdth (but if it's only just started happening then I doubt these are the cause)
== ha Just read the other replies after posting this. Amazing how we all have different ideas and all. Anyway R G solution seems the most likliest afterall, although I've never increased the virtual memory on any of my PCs.

It may be possible you do not have enough RAM installed. Most people only purchase computers with 512MB of RAM which, today is a the minimum standard.
Your computer could also be doing Windows updates.
You may not be able to have other Windows open at the same time when you are viewing videos.
Increasing virtual memory is not the best answer only because virtual memory is a portion of your hard disk and is slower.
I have a notebook with an ATI 64MB video chip and 2GB of RAM and when a lot of my backgroud processes are running I get some lag.

youtube is always dodgy, make sure you let the video load a bit first before playing to give it time to buffer if you have a slow internet connection. sounds like driver isues as well, try it with a different program such as itunes or quicktime. both free. you have plenty of RAM so its not a performance issue. consider ringing the helpline. also try downloading the new windows media player 11, it may fix a few issues that were up with the old one.

hi there, i am a PC technician, on this type of laptop, there tends to be freezing of streaming data due to a low "virtual memory" factory setting, this can be changed however, right click on your comptuer icon on your desktop and a tab feature will appear
click on advanced>performance and advanced again, go to the bottom and you will see Virtual memory, click in there, change figure to 4000, click apply and restart your computer, problem solved!
