I would recommend ballet and tap first because they are good solo dances, are fairly common, form the basis for many other dance styles and usually require an early start to excel.
If she falls in love with ballet, let her continue. If not, you should expose her to solo jazz, which is the basis for a lot of swing/lindy as well as musical theater dances.
Then when she is a bit older, and if she wants to, she can pick up ballroom dancing or swing or hip-hop or modern. Any of those will come very easily to someone who has had a couple years of ballet, tap and jazz.
I mainly do swing dancing but also do ballroom. I can instantly tell if a newbie to swing has done ballroom, or if my new partner has had ballet (she is really good at spinning).

If she wants to do ballet then I say you should let her. Ballet is the basis of a lot of dance styles so by learning ballet she will have an easier time adjusting to other styles of dance... if she does decide to change her mind. Jazz is fine too but she will learn different techniques than she would in ballet. You could always go to the studio and talk to the instructors about their teaching styles or have you and your daughter watch one of the classes then you both can decide which you are more interested in.

Ballet- it's the root of other dance forms such as jazz and modern, so if she wants to start them later she will have a very good foundation. Also, make sure to take her to a good school that will teach her right, not the Y or girl scouts and not a school focused on competitions or recitals (these are called "dolly dinkle" schools)- she won't learn anything right there, and she'll have a lot of fun learning technique at a good school with talented older dancers to look up to.

i am not sure, but where i live the local Y has class in some dance, very cheap. Also some girl scout troops teach dance, the older girls get credit for teaching. Ballet is great! See if they will let you do a trial, for say 2 weeks, at a cut rate. some places will do that, if they are not full classes. Have FUN! what ever dance you chose.

Let her do ballet. Find out if there are any kids in her class at school who do ballet and let her join in. If not find a dance school who will let her do a trial class. If you start her in jazz adn then switch her she will be behind and feel bad......

I started off taking a form of tap & jazz when I was just three years old. Its alot of just tap tap tap and stuff like that, but it teaches a kid to follow directions and now I do alot of different kinds of dances, for example clogging, jazz, poms, hip hop, tap, and some lyrical. So I would check with a studio and see what they offer for your daughters age but any dance would help her learn to follow directions because thats what the teacher wants to accomplish more than anything with beginners.

you should do ballet because she will learn at a young age, so she will become an expert as she becomes older.
