Alright, I'm writing a paper for my American History class. It must be 7-10 pages long and can be about any topic in American history from 1848-1929. The topic needs to be narrowly focused so a paper about the Civil War, for example, is way too broad... it would need to be more specific like a battle within the Civil War. So I thought of a few topics and can't decide which one I should do. So should I write about: Child Labor in America, the Rise of Industrialism, Immigration and Immigrants' role in America, Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution, or the rise of Women... I'll apreciate your answers. Also, if you can think of a better, more interesting topic please tell me. Thanks!

How about- How Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution Affected various religious gruops within the country/ sparked a HUGE controversy? That's fairly narrow, but still interesting.

These ideas are outside your preferred areas but they are areas not many people cover. Everyone goes for Revolution or Civil war, but be careful as the tons of info on these topics can be overwhelming. Andrew Jackson's battles with Congress over Executive power The effect of the Homestead Act following the Civil War Race riots in the North during the Civil War The Know-Nothing movement in the 1850's Why was Andrew Johnson the first U.S. president to be impeached 19th century U.S. history is full of great topics. Try to be original. Your teacher will appreciate it when they get to read something different from what the rest of the class wrote. You may also learn something completely new.

If you really want to have some fun, write about prohibition,(The Volstead Act) Elliot Ness and the untouchables, Al Capone. That would be 1919- to 1929. There is a wealth of research material and if you like excitement, that is the best period of American History. "The Jazz Age." I wrote a book about it, about the "hooch" runners and all the good stuff that happened during that period. Chicago, Kansas City, New York had very colorful characters. As long as you are studying history, have a little fun.
Here's a good first sentence: It started with the Volstead Act--The Jazz Age--

Do the rise of women, there's so much to talk about and so much research you can find. Between 1848 and 1929 women took a huge leap forward going from basically no rights to being able to vote in 1920 with the 19th amendment. There are so many directions you can go with this topic.

Immigration and Immigrants might be a more relevant topic to current times. But if you want some other idea I suggest you pick a genre of music and do it on that... that's what i did mine on hahahaha
EDIT: Music is easier to write about at least it was for me. Wrote 12 pages Double spaced, 12 Font Times New Roman, 1 inch all sides. it was more like 10.5 pages if you consider the title and the source page (work cited)

If you want to write about the Civil War, but want it more focused, choose one battle, one city, one valley, or whatever. Was your town involved in the civil war? Do you have any good monuments of it in your town? If so, that would be an excellent focus for your paper.

Charles darwin and the theory of evolution. reason is u can waste a lot of your paper on research about the theory itself. so it will make the job of making a 7-10 page paper a lot easier. thats what i do and it works!

Blow your teacher away, write about something no one else will...like how the Germans and French helped us win the Civil War. Or the embargo war in the Carolinas. Write about the origins of how slaves were first brought here or the treatment of POW's during their imprisonment....by the North
