Depending on your Dr., he/she may just verify your pregnancy with a test, then schedule you for 4 more weeks to do all of the testing. He/she may order an ultrasound to determine exactly how far along you are. Typically, Doctors don't like to do anything before 8-12 weeks. At that next appt, you will have an exam, and be tested for lots of things like std's, hiv, hepatitis, your blood type, your blood count, etc. Plan on giving a urine sample as well, and plan on doing that for all of your appt's. Your Dr. will also go over your entire health history and family health history, so be sure to be as honest as you can in order to receive the proper medical care!! You won't have any more tests after that (If they all come back normal), until you are about 1/2 way through......then you will have the glucose test, ultrasound, etc. Good Luck to you, hope this helps!!!!

Our first appointment only lasted about half an hour. Pap smear, check the condition and size of the birth canal, blood test, information and time for questions if you have any. Good luck!

I went to my first the other day (third pregnancy) but I didn't pay attention to the clock.

The majority of the appointment was spent talking with my midwife about how I was feeling and stuff. They want to know about any problems your family has had with pregnancies and having babies ... so make sure you gather all of that info before you go.

The pap smear doesn't take long at all. It takes longer to undress and dress. They will also check your weight and breasts. They will listen to your breathing and test your heartrate.

And you will likely have to have some blood drawn. Make sure you are warm and well hydrated (I think those things make the process easier).

Congrats

Pap smear takes less than a minute. They take your weight, urine and blood, check your breasts and determine a due date. It's hard to hear a heartbeat at 5 weeks so I'm not sure if the doctor will do that.

my first appointment at 4 weeks all they did was take down my information and my medical history. they gave me magazines and pamphlets. my second visit at 8 weeks they did the pap smear wich takes like 5 minutes but it seems more like 30 minutes then she did a vaginal ultrasound and checked my breasts for lumps. it took about 45 minutes all together. but every doctor is different. congratulations and good luck

A pap smear is just a matter of mere minutes.
At my first prenatal appointment, they also did a vaginal ultrasound and did some blood work.

at my first appointment I had to feel out a diet sheet, so they could see what I should eat more or less of, I had a pap smear, and an STD/HIV test, they measured my weight, my height, and my stomach, and they also checked my vaginal canal and cervix to see how much room was expected once the baby started to grow.
