Generally they will start with the simple tests first. They'll do some bloodwork to check your hormone levels, your thyroid, and to see if you're ovulating. They will also want to check your husband's semen. If all of this comes back fine they will most likely have you go for an HSG to check if your tubes are blocked. My doctor actually had me try clomid for a couple months before the HSG test. If all of those tests are normal then they may have you come in after intercourse and check to make sure that your cervical mucus is not "hostile" and killing the sperm.

There are all kinds of tests. First sperm count then they check your hormone levels and your tubes to make sure that there is no blockage. By the way it doesnt hurt unless your tubes are blocked. If they are blocked this test is painful. If they find nothing as in my case they start you on low dose fertility drugs ie clomed. If that doesnt work higher dose pergonal and insememination. That is what worked for me! I got healthy twins. Good luck it took me 4 1/2 years! Don't give up.

If you ask your Dr. for a referal to an OB/GYN they will start with an HSG, I can't remember the name but it is a test for woman to see if the tubes are open and sperm can pass through them. There is a lot that can be done beyond that, but that is generally the beginning for you. For you hubby it would be a test of his sperm, to check quality and mobility.

First they will want to test his sperm count because it is the least invasive. Then they will check your blood hormone levels to make sure you are ovulating normally. Beyond that depends on what the first tests reveal. Good luck.
