I imagine you are learning about basic equations. The main thing to remember about all equation (even the harder ones when you get older) is that they must 'balance'. Think of a set of balance sales where the = sign represents the pivot on the scales. So 9 must 'balance' x-6. If you add or subtract anything from one side of the scales, you must do the same to the other side to keep the scales balanced. So,for convenience, if we add 6 to the x-6 side, we get x-6+6. in other words x. But if we do this, we must do the same to the other side. So we must add 6 to the 9 which equals 15.
So we get x = 15
If you apply this rule to any equation, you won't go far wrong. Good luck!

Add six to each side of the equation:
9 + 6 = x - 6 + 6
15 = x + 0
x = 15

9=x-6
x = 9+6
(you add six to both sides as that will cancel out the -6 on the side you want to get rid of it and move it to the other
side)
so x = 15

which is the same as 9+6 which is 15.
