as long as you know the quirks of the car you should be alright to drive it, sounds to me that your fuel pump might be starting to go south, I hope not for your sake as they are very expensive to replace.

Umm...I've never heard of this problem before - gas tank level having an effect on driveability. Hmmm.
Perhaps you have a lot of water in your gas tank, from either a hole...or way too much condensation? Maybe with a full tank, the water % is manageable, but with half, or less...it really starts to get to be a big percentage.
Try a gas treatment, like a water remover or gasline antifreeze, and see if that helps you.
You may also have a lot of dirt, etc in your gas tank. Have you checked the gas tank filter?

It may simply be that your gas gauge is reading too high. If that's the case, you're almost out by the time it hits half a tank, which is pretty bad. How much gas do you put in when it's reading half full? Check your owner's manual to see how much gas your tank holds - if you need almost that much (within a gallon or so) at "half a tank," you've just got a bad gauge or sending unit.
The other possibility is that there's a huge amount of crud in your gas tank. If you really do only need half a tankful (or thereabouts) at the half-tank mark, you'll need to have the tank removed and cleaned out.

your fuel pump inside of the fuel tank is going bad.when the level drops below 1/2 tank the top of the pump is out of the fuel.the electric motor running the pump then warms up and shuts off.when more fuel is added the pump stays cool and now runs.you need to replace the fuel pump asap as very shortly it will quit for good.i recomend an AC DELCO pump for replacement as the cheap ones at auto zone don't last long and since you have to remove the tank to put it in you might as well put in a good quality pump.removing and reinstalling the tank is a good sized job that should only be done once.

Sounds like the filter strainer in the gas tank is severly dirty, amongst that i bet you got a good amount of tank sedement in there too. You might want to seriously looking into having your tank dropped and cleaned along with the replacement of that fuel filter strainer thats connected to the fuel pump. Good luck.

You could have a pressure test done to check if your fuel pump is working properly. You have a fuel strainer inside the gas tank that may be restricting fuel flow also. Good Luck!

sounds like you may need a fuel filter change, or there is something wrong with your fuel pump or fuel tank itself. When was the last time you had maintenance or a tune up? Start with that, and a fuel filter change (the least expensive of the possible solutions)

It is possible ,the hose in the gas tank connected to the fuel pump could have a hole or tear in it.Have your fuel pressure checked.I believe that is the problem.
