I disagree.
Sending noncombatants to the front line will do nothing to win the war. This should be obvious, even to liberals.

You seem to have forgotten the mass graves, the soccer field that for thirty years was used as an arena for be-heading people, the people who were not allowed to lock their doors at night so that Saddam Hussain's son and his thugs could come in any time they wanted and drag fathers and sons out to be killed or mothers and daughters raped. You seem to have forgotten training camps for terrorists where people were trained for no other reason but to kill as many non-muslum people as they could, everywhere in the world, the parents that raised their children to become suicide bombers, the car bombs, etc. etc. etc. How sad that you have forgotten (or never had an ounce of compassion for )people who have to live under a monster who would treat his own people that way. He was the weathy, dirty little coward that our troops found hiding in a 'spider hole'. Remember? Do you remember the people of Iraq pulling down the statue of Saddam Hussain and dragging the head of it through the streets? You think the Bush administration caused the horror and chaos over there? Where have you been the past five years? And please don't dishonor our troops by making it sound like they are to stupid to know why they are there. They know exactly why they are there and what's more they are doing a very commendable job. We should all thank God that we still have men and women who are brave enough to 'VOLUNTEER' to go do a very nasty, dangerous job that truly needs to be done, instead of sitting home on their butts whining and criticising. Maybe this last group are the ones who should go over there and find out how life is going for the people now that Hussain is gone. They might learn to engage their brains BEFORE their mouths go into motion!!!!!

Obama could go through a political defeat if he pulled out the troops today simply by fact the terrorists could take over the country like earlier and we've a sparkling Saddam Hussein ( no relation to Barack Hussein Obama) and the paintings, fulfillment, and progression made could be misplaced. The hundreds that died on 9/11 and the squaddies who gave their lives in the process the conflict could be for not something. it could be like announcing, "My political acceptance is merely greater significant".

Amen Bopper!!!
We could institute this policy beginning now. That would prevent us from invading Iran as apparently the Bushies want to do.
What about the idea that a guilty politician could avoid service by having his son or daughter serve in his place? That would be interesting to see if Republicans really believe in family values then!

If the leaders of countries had to lead their armies onto the field like ancient kings did, you're right, there would be a huge cut-back in the amount of wars in the world.
Politicians love to send other people out to fight their battles for them.

Of course, it would also help if they (Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, etc.) could just jump into their souped-up Deloreans and NOT dodge the Vietnam draft. Then maybe they'd get a real taste of war.

I get your drift, but, as a soldier, would you really want Dick Chaney in the foxhole next to yours - with a loaded gun?
