I hold down the play/pause bottom for a few seconds like it says... and it appears to be turned off but ill turn it back on later on and not only does it turn back on instantly without loading but the batteries are drained. Almost as if it was never off! Any suggestions!?

Continue what you are doing with your iPod. When the screen is blank, click on the "lock/hold" button. It might be bumping around something else and hitting the wheel. Mine does that if I don't have the lock button on.

Okay press the play button, and the menu button. When it turns dark (the sreen) on the top of the ipod there should be a button that goes side to side, its called the HOLD button. you just have to push it right, until the red/orangish lights that come on, that makes it stay. In order to turn it back on switch it to the left side and press the play/menu button! ENJOYYY

You are turning your iPod off correctly, try putting it on hold once it is off.

Once you turn it off you have to put it on hold and it will stay off until you take it off hold and press any button.

I had to find that out when I first got mine. =]
