If I were president (presumably of the United States), I would publicize the limitations of my bloody position.
I would enlist experts nation-wide to speak on how presidential authority is limited and in what circumstances.
I would belittle television and other popular media that promote the myth that the American president has the political authority to unilaterally direct the nation.
I would then hire political, economic, and sociological experts from numerous schools of thought, some alternative, and enlist them in deciding how best to interpret the socio-economic state of the nation. I would balance the ideologues and single-perspective brainchildren of the Ivy league, with pragmatists from State schools.
Finally, if I were a democrat I would fire all of my dogmatic, insular and narrow-minded democratic advisors, and if I was republican I'd resign and become a mid-western tabasco salesman.

This is all assuming I had a relatively free hand and wasn't hampered by Congress and such......
I'd pull our troops out of Iraq, along with as many of the rest that are spread out all over the world as possible.
Then, I'd clean out the gov't of as many corporate puppets as possible.
Then, I'd do some serious budget revisions.....cutting defense spending by a large amount and sending the money into scientific research, which would blossom because I'd remove as many of the incredibly suffocating restrictions scientists have as I could.
Then, I'd bring our country's energy policies up to par with the rest of the world's. I'd make our auto manufacturers increase the standard MPG to at least 50mpg, if not higher (which is around where a large portion of the rest of the world is), and I'd offer big incentives to get them away from fossil fuels entirely.
Then, I'd seriously revise our national drug policy, legalizing as much as possible, and taxing the hell out of it. The billions of dollars saved from eliminating the drug war could also be diverted to things like scientific research (to make the drugs safer, and for genetic research, too, to locate and eliminate genetic predispositions for addiction, in general, if some genetics exist).
Then, I'd revise our national education policies, raising the standards by a huge amount, as well as placing high standards on public school food (and somewhere in there, I'd raise the standards for our mass produced grocery-store food, too.....no more disease-ridden chicken and cow factories).
Then.......well, I could go on and on, but those are the first things that come to mind. I'm sure in 4 or 8 years, I could come up with a lot more.

well, my body is a wreck and when you are like that nothing much is very appealing. getting up each morning is a big decision. go pee and get a little more shuteye or make some instant coffee and check the news and emails. all i get lately are offers to get degrees. i have degrees. they want me to earn money online and know it all bs. but if i woke up and learned everybody had elected me president like happened to george b. well i would line up the besst doctors and hospitals and drug companies and try to put humpty dumptyback together again. then i they succeeded and not kill me, i would push to restore the draft because if i was president we are damn sure going to kick some serious butt. we would go through iran like a damn buzzsaw. north korea would be obliterated in one big flash. the president of venuzuala would shockingly disappear and so would a half dozen others on the enemies list. i would do everythigng to make it a better world and make the us. a kinder and gentler place to work and work you would or not so kind and gentle. lets, i would annex cuba and build a bridge from key west. the un would be dismantled and another built in death valley or worse. so much would need to be corrected to suit me., lets think...

As president you cannot legally spray a mural on the side of the White House. It's not your house, it's the people's house.

I would make one law and throw all the others out,
It is illegal to do anything that does not benefit everyone
I would make one punishment for this law,
Death, of course it would not be enforced unless everyone agreed it was a benefit to all, including the one put to death.
