I've had seven HCG tests done in the last month- inconclusive urine tests, then a miscarriage- and they've never taken more than one vial for each one. Hoewver, the nurse may want more blood drawn for other tests while she has you- blood sugar, thyroid, liver function, etc., which is routine at the start of prenatal care. The results can take a half-hour to overnight depending on the lab your dr uses. You usually have to have at least 2 hcg levels done, as pregnancy can't really be confirmed unless the HCG level rises at a steady rate, and that can't be determined with just one sample. You may be asked to come in two days later for a second draw...
To make it less uncomfortable, ask the nurse to use a butterfly needle, and turn your head a way and recite the alphabet backwards to distract your mind.

One vile.
They detect my pregnancy at week 4-5
result came back within 1-3 days...depending on how urgen it is
I am not good with needles either. Just sit looking the other way and relax. It doesn't hurt that much! Just a pinch when they put the needle in. I got 3 blood test done just last week. You can tell that I'm used to it now. Seriously it doesn't hurt much as someone pinching you.
Good luck!

I'm so sorry, but if your are pregnant you will have to get used to needles. I hate needles too!!! I have such small veins that they have a really hard time drawing my blood. Fortunately, the people working in the lab downstairs from my clinic are VERY good at what they do.
edit: I don't think the butterfly needle makes things better ... it takes longer (they have had to use that one for me a lot).
But once they poke you for the first vile, they don't have to poke you again until your next blood test. I just went to the doctor last tuesday for my first visit and they took four viles.

Well you may not go to your dr you may have to go to the hospital I did. I just got blood taken 2 weeks ago for pregnancy and they only take 1 vile of blood. I went on a friday and I got my test back on monday so it comes back pritty quick. If your afraid of needles then turn your head and don't watch! Everything will be ok. It only jags it doesn't hurt. I think a blood test can determine if your pregnant as soon as you think you are.

They take three viles, but not all are for the pregnancy test. One is for blood typing, one is for labs, and one is for the test. They can detect pregnancy sooner than otc tests, but usually won't test until you miss a period. Results, depending on where the work is being done, can be ready the same day up to three or five days after.

Honey ~ Just get a home pregnancy test. You can get them for less that five dollars in some stores. There is no blood involved. Home pregnancy tests involve checking your urine for certain chemicals that are present when you are pregnant. The newer tests can detect pregnancy even BEFORE you miss your first pregnancy (four days before you are due to start.) Results are available in just 60 seconds, and you can do it in the privacy of your own home. Results are very accurate.

They take 2 tubes of blood. The test should only take about 10-15minutes after they draw your blood. If you are really afraid of needles you should know in advance not to look at the tube of because seeing your blood rush into it will make u dizzy and wanna throw up.

Have you tried a home pregnancy test?
They're 99% accurate so if that says no, then you more than likely aren't pregnant. If it says that you are, then you can get your blood taken at the doctor's.
It really only takes a couple of drops to know if you're pregnant or not but I bet they take maybe two viles.
It only takes like thirty seconds anyway.

It does not matter if it sat there for a month, it will not affect the results. You could go to the ER right now and complain of pain and say you think you are pregnant and they will do a blood test on you and you would find out within 45 minutes.

well if it is just a pregnancy test, they only need one. But can take up to four. May as well get all the blood drawn you need to, get the needle once.
