I'm 33 and still waiting for it to happen and for someone to acknowledge it. What action/s cement my status as a grown-up?

Some people never grow up completely. I'm 51 and I still watch Bugs Bunny cartoons. I don't think it's so much our actions as it is our minds that mature. What might not seem childish to one person may seem very childish to the next. Some people mature very early in life. Maturity is all in how you perceive it. It's all a state of mind. I act mature sometimes and then when I am around certain friends the kid comes back out in me. I wouldn't worry about it. I have always been a firm believer that if someone doesn't like the way I act or look, they can turn their heads.

There's a very famous quote, I can't remember who said it , but it says you grow up when you have the first laugh at yourself.

Generally ' adult' status is conferred on one when they move away from home and live independently for a number of years and not months. When they pay their own bills without help from mum and or dad or the family. When they assume full responsibility for all their actions and the consequences of those actions without whining or blaming someone or something else.

I know ten year olds who are more grown up than alot of fifty year olds I've met. Only you know and the only one who has to acknowledge it is you.

legally you are now a grown up because you are past the age of 18.

even more so since you are past the age of 21, since now you can get drunk legally.

those are the only acknowledgments we get until we become old and we get social security and can join the AARP.

that's it. It's all over rated and I can't believe that when we where kids we couldn't wait to be adults. I'd rather go to school, play and watch cartoons all day, then what I am doing now.

Some people think its when you turn 18 or maybe get your first apartment. Thats bull. Most 18 year olds living on their own - mommy and daddy are still paying the bills for them. Some say its when you get married. Nah, anyone can do that. Having a baby? Anyone can do that also. Rasing that baby right, being there for that child 24/7 - well thats a good sign you have made it. But it doesnt mean that you must be a parent to be grown up.
Myself, i would say you are grown up when you are able to take care of yourself and are there to help take care of others in need. Im in my mid 30s. I still act like a kid at times and even look somewhat boyish. But i take care of myself, pay my own bills and do alot to help take care of others who need help.

Your own belief in yourself. Nothing and nobody can do that. It is when you come into your own by accepting responsibility for things. No matter what they may be or how significant they are. Incidentally, never lose the child. Be child like not childish as they say. Nobody is grown up, it is an idea and without actions is just that. It falls flat.

Some people never fully grow up. Maturity usually comes with experience, job, love life, family and it is predicated on so many factors. Your own emotional stability plays an important role in maturity. I was immature when I was drafted into the air force and within a year I matured enormously. I was still a kid for the first six months, but they soon knocked that out of me.

I hate to tell you this, but you DON'T grow up, well least wise I am still waiting.

I decided at Christmas, as I have taken early retirement that the snoopy pj 's and my Micky Mouse T-shirt have to go. They seem unappropriate somehow. Life is a BIATCH

I STILL cannot make up my mind what I want to be when I grow up!!!

However, I came to the conclusion, that although you cannot really prevent growing OLDER - you do not HAVE to GROW UP!

My fiance is 34 and still acts like a complete child - it's all good though :) I like how he is young at heart.

AS for me well I grew up after having my first child at 22 :) I'm 25 and currently pregnant with my 2nd child, and feel allot more mature then the first time round :)

Maybe have a child? LOL! I don't know everybody is different.

I think being responsible for yourself financially and ethically means you are an adult. Others may have other definitions.

I'm 35 and I sure don't feel grown-up. Have you seen some of my answers here?? LOL I still feel like a kid and I think most of us do.
