OK, Leeuwenhoek is best known for refining microscope lenses in the mid-17thcentury. (http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/history/leeuwenhoek.html)

Hooke is best known for naming a cell 'cell' (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hooke), also same century.

robert hooke developed the first compound microscope, whereas antoni van leeuwenheok invented the single -lens miicroscope and first person to view a living organism
