She has an enormous ego and thinks she is God's gift to humanity. If she really cared about people, she'd fork over much more than the fraction of her wealth she yearly doles out. I don't consider her influential at all, which is probably why she refuses to run for public office where she might actually do some good for society.
You want a great influences on American culture, try Coretta Scott King or Congresswomen Barbara Jordan & Shirley Chisholm.

That woman put selflessness on the map. She is a practical and very offering karmatic person that will always show others what should be done when you make money and have too much of it, share. People should be thankful even our so-called President and all his so-called The World is an important place kin folks...
People buy Islands. Oprah buys hope, futrue, and a chance of being part of this vast world called planet earth, cheers!!!

I think just the fact that she was an overweight black woman, and, at a time when these opportunities weren't really extended to minorities, worked her way up to and into her own talk show, and since has virtually become an empire amongst herself. These are the reasons for her strong influence.

i'll tell ya.. been acting like a white woman for years thats what she's done. don't get me wrong but i don't think Oprah is true to herself.. she turned her back on her own people.. have you noticed her audience how its filled with middle class white females. she's doing her thing though.. i can't hate.. i congrats her cause she's doing what many of us is trying to do and that is get PAID!!!

been honest about her issues which expanded her audience base....than became a very generous philathrapist (sp) which added to her credibilty.........and ultimately she is now one of the most influential people in the world due to her overwhelming wealth

I'm not trying to insult her. She is a smart woman who gives a lot of her money to charity. Calm down people. Having money doesn't make you a bad person.

She started out with nothing and worked hard for everything she has. She was never handed anything. She once was just a regular person.
