when i crank up the car is start to shoot fire from the manifolds. people told me that the engine timing is off. i would like to know is that true. how would i fix it.

it is a 87 v8 5.0l

Timing could be off or it's running really lean. Check your fuel pressure. Year and engine size would help.

I had a chevy pickup that when you shifted would shoot flame out the exhaust. This was caused by unburned gas being detonated when the exhaust valves were open it was outta time
