You're probably not going to like this. Yes, I think schools should conduct random searches of lockers. PERIOD. (I'm assuming we are talking about public schools). Tax payers pay for the schools. We have had many situations over recent years where students have gotten out of control. There have been MANY situations across our country where students have shot other students/teachers (remember Columbine? Jonesboro, AR?) These are two major ones that come to mind.

Give me a reason why young people in our public schools should be able to have guns, (any weapons of any kind) on their person or in their lockers). Drugs...any type of contriband should be located within our schools and appropraite actions taken.

It's only been in recent years that this type of behavior has occured. Actually, pretty much since the government stepped into our lives and decided that they will decide how we raise our children. Yes, they have rights, but they also know that they are protected by the various levels of government. To the point where our young people are out of control. The government "empowered" them with "rights".

I say "yes" to in school searches; whether they be random locker searches or searches of the students person. Leave your sh*t at home...it doesn't belong in the schools that I (and all other adults) pay taxes for. We have to take control somewhere and I'm tired of the arguements from students that they have the right to their privacy. Yes, but your privacy kills our children and our children have the God-given right to an education where they are protected from anyone who might cause them harm.

If you disagree, talk with any one of the parents who have lost a child due to school killings over the past 10 years.

Although lockers are a place for students to store personal items between and/or during classes, they are, in fact, school property. Therefore, the principle has every right to conduct such searchs. Frankly, the only ones who should be worried are those with something to hide, and generally we only hide things that could embarrass us or get us in trouble.

Embarrasement, well, believe me, the principle has probably seen it all anyway and your whatever will be nothing new. Sorry if that bursts a bubble, but it's true, so get over it.

Trouble, well that means your breaking some rule or another, or otherwise doing something you shouldn't. Frankly maybe you shouldn't be doing it - or at least not keeping the evidence in your locker!

Personally, I wouldn't mind it so much. Things in schools are allowed where they aren't quite so restricted in the adult world. This is becuase you have a large group of minors in one place, that's a huge liablilty. Conducting random locker searches will probably deter students from bringing and keeping dangerous objects. Provided that the pricipal doens't go past certain boundries (i.e. actually reading a notebook, or personal note; taking things that have no real effect on school safety...ect), I see no reason to be upset about it. At our school, we have drug searches several times a year, I don't see how this is much different. In my oppinion, you shouldn't be keeping entirely personal things in your locker anyway. Besides, has it occured to anyone that they can get into your locker anyway? They have a master list and most locks can be opened with a key.

you are in a private or public space that is supported by tax dollars or paid by your parents in the interest of safety a random locker search is an easy way to ferret out illegal substances danger substances and to keep the fear of discovery alive in anyone who would in any way harm another person if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear let it go and think about school more and not where you hid the loot from your last holdup okay. it is a minor thing and should not be an issue catching those who have pipe bombs, guns etc in their lockers will be a a major deal if they are every used and a minor inconvenience to those who have nothing they aren't supposed to have in there. it is the shool locker not yurs you are only borrowing it under certain know rules.

My question would be: Do you have something that you don't want seen hidden in your locker?

If not than there shouldn't be a big deal. They would only consider doing this if they feel they need to in order to keep the students safe.

I don't completely disagree with this idea. They did have random searches when I was in high school 10+ years ago and it was always for a reason.

Does that help you?

just as my computer at work is subject to search, my emails read etc..because the computer is the propery as is the locker. It belongs to the school district, you are only borrowing the locker for the year. Sorry but there is not right to privacy at school.

Don't keep anything that might embarrass you in your locker. And you shouldn't have anything illegal anyway. Did you buy the locker and have it installed? If not, then it is probably the school's property.

What's the problem?

attempt the 4th modification. it is probable not likely to paintings, as human beings above have observed. you do not own the locker, so it is not yours to assert if it would want to be searched or not.

I believe it is fair, after all, the lockers are owned by the school.
