I think police are doing their job and don't always understand the circumstances. They are trained to shoot to kill. They have to use their best judgement and can't sit back and think awhile about the possible consequences. It's not realistic. I think if there is good reason to suggest there was foul play, then by all means investigate. But if that person was commiting a crime or was a suspect and was fleeing. Then I am totally siding with the police and see no need for investigation.

In my criminal justice classes we have discussed this. My professor is a retired police officer and he says when someone is fleeing or is suspected of having a weapon you shoot to kill not to disable.

I think the media is very unfair. I know there are obvious cases when police take advantage of there position but for the most part they are always trying to help and they have to make split second decisions

I have to agree. I am not a criminal, I never plan on being a criminal. But if you decide to do something that infringes upon my rights, or anyone elses in the nature that a police officer ends up shooting someone. Then I believe that the police officer was in the right. I do not care, what he was doing, just as long as he was guilty of the crime. 100% PRO Capital Punishment

Handguns are killing tools.
No big problem with that, but that's all they're good for.
Hammers are good for pounding nails.
At the Academy, we're taught to shoot to "stop the threat"
Warning shots and "shoot to wound" are expressly proscribed.
You can't shoot a fleeing suspect.

Most of these recent shootings have involved people who have pointed guns at law enforcement.
Not a good idea.
We have better equipment and training.

Don't listen to the guy who answered that all cops are "pigs." The police enforce the laws that we live by. If there were no police to enforce our laws then our society would be in anarchy. My Grandfather was a cop in NYC during WWII, he was as fair and honest as they come. The police are our front-line of defense from the criminal element that lies in wait. The only people that don't like cops are the people that break the law. I have never had any problems with the police and people that do have problems with the police usually bring it upon themselves. Treat the police with the same level of dignity and respect that you yourself would expect.

yes, like that guy that grabbed the officers taser gun and used it on the officer, the officer recovered and shot the guy. Heck I would have to, now the family is saying the guy was mentally chllenged and the officer should not have shot him.

His own family called the cops because the dude was being violent with them in their own house.

WTF, he was smart enough to use a weapon on an officer, wasn't he?
