If you smoke you are afforded no rights whatsoever ... the anti-smoking eco nazis have seen to that. They have the loudest voices, the public in general are taken in by their propaganda and the government panders to popular belief so they look like they care.
The tax gathered on cigarettes could pay for the NHS several times over, yet the anti-smoking Taliban reckon smokers shouldn't receive treatment ... even for broken legs and other non-"smoking related" issues.
Yes car fumes are harmful, but if they make you ill it is seen as a "smoking related" illness - you don't stand a chance.
Somebody above said cars are outside and the fumes dissipate ... so taking that argument on, why are smokers being made to stand further and further away from the doorways to their office blocks for fear of harming people going past?
Personally I smoke and I drive a fume making car ... I suppose that makes me public enemy number 1 - oh well, I reckon I'll go for a ciggie and a long drive to calm my nerves.

I had this argument with a nurse while I was in hospital 25 years ago.
I was in after being told on the day of my op that I had cervical cancer, they didn't tell me before hand just that I had an infection and needed a hysterectomy I was 31 at the time(giving my age away).
She complained because I was in the smoking room 2 days after my op. So I asked her if she drove a car when she said yes I asked her to think about the muck she was kicking into baby's faces as they waited to cross the road.
I also pointed out that there were women who had ops on the same day as me who were still lying in bed and were acting as if they were dying. Even though I was told that I couldn't do anything strenuous for 3 months I was out riding my bike after 6 weeks. Just goes to show that smokers recover faster after an op so that they can have a cigarette.
It's about time smokers started standing up to the government, they are happy enough to take the high tax we pay on cigarettes.
None smokers don't realise that if everyone gives up smoking they will get higher tax bills because the government will need to get the money from somewhere.

I totally agree with Grington. I am a non-smoker and cannot believe how much the P.C. brigade kick-off about this.
Why is it socially acceptable to ask a smoker to stop smoking yet it is considered highly offensive to ask fat people to stop eating. Obesity costs the health service FAR more than smoking related illness.

I'll say it's okay for you to smoke in a room with others as long as you sleep in a room with a car engine running.
Sounds stupid doesn't it.
Cars are outside, the exhaust can dissipate unless you live in L.A. Being in a confined space with smokers has been proven to be unhealthy, Sorry. I know how it is, I smoke as well. We just have to suck it up. (no pun intended...well maybe just a little pun)

If we continue with this "protect everyone from everything" mentality we'll all be living in our own personal bubbles and only fed "healthy food" , all provided by the government.
