Well, there is always paperwork to be caught up, we also have to make sure that the funeral home is in tip-top shape, so when we have down time, we paint, sweep, clean, odd jobs that need done around the funeral home. Also, we may just take the time off and enjoy it, because our schedule isn't like everyone else's. We get called out Christmas morning and during our kids' birthday parties, so sometimes during the down time we just relax and spend time with our family. Also, to answer you other question, most are salaried. Hope this helps, take care.

It depends where you are. If you are in a city or any higher population area funeral homes are desperate for people and you will never have to worry about what to do. That will more likely be the situation you find yourself. In small towns, rural areas, it's usually just a family business and there are few employees if any. I believe most are salaried, not paid by the hour.

They get paid by the job...You'll always have somebody to embalm because if you didn't the funeral service in the place you reside wouldn't exist...and then it'd be like any other thing you specialize in, you move to where the work is.
People are always dying so you'll never run into the problem.

The director makes a salary, and other employees make a salary or wage. It is not a per body type of thing. Funeral homes are usually run by corporations that pay the employees their wages/salary.
