I doubt it. Blair probably decided it was better to be good friends with a superpower, and we would the best choice. I hope the people of UK and the USA can stay good friends despite the difficulties, it does seem to be in both our interests.

No, I think that he thinks

'dear God, that is the most powerful person in the world, and he's a fool... the only sensible course of action is to stay on his good side and hope he doesn't remember the nuclear launch codes!!!'

It's gotta be a motive for being nice to him. Think about it, if Bush decides to declare war on a country tomorrow, the UK will be the last on the list...
