Doing something that you enjoy, something that you are good at. Being surrounded by people you love and who appreciate you. Being happy. Being secure with the way you look, your possessions (house, car, etc.) - not that they have to be the biggest or the best but you need to feel good about what you have.

This is a brilliant question. Success is hard to define. I think society tells us that is is related to our bank balances, the cars we drive, the homes we live in and the clothes we wear. When in fact success can only be defined on a personal level, its beyond monetary value. Yet if you ask the rich what they value most, they will tell you that love is the most important thing in life. If you ask the poor, they will undoubtedly tell you its money.

It has to also be bigger than the roles we play, like being a good mom, a great provider, an inspired teacher or that wonderful child. We mean so many things to so many people, and at some point in time someone will be unhappy with a decision we have made and note us as being an unsuccessful ….(person).

So I think success can only be defined as finding yourself in a space where you are the person you were born to be. Your heart is content, you wish for no more or no less of anything. Life is filled with moments in which we take great pride and some we shy from, but success must mean standing proudly within your life. Be able to look into your mirror and like what you see. Accept all that has happened, is happening and what may come to pass. Only then can we really be successful.

I've always prescribed to "success is the journey, not the destination". I also resist defining success as the opposite of failure, instead the greatest successes (or better put, achievements) came at the expense and learning of failure.

I've had many achievements and failures that have added up to a pretty successful journey. That is my definition of success.

A long answer is not required as the definition to success is happiness and fulfilment. Doesn't matter who you are, what you have, what you drive or how much money you have in the bank.

You just have to feel happy about who you are and fulfilled with what you have in life, as in family, friends, lover etc..Material things like cars, house and money etc don't make you a success!

First, I start out by writing down what I want in life.
I started this at the age of 13. I am now 54.
Then I go thru life. Day by day.
Occasionally I add things to what I want in life, as I learn more things about life.
As I achieve what I want in life, I check it off. See what else there is to be done with my life.
If I am achieving what I want in life, things big and small, then I feel I am successful.

Success is NOT ONLY having a lot of money or being a successful celebrity, singer, writer, etc.

Success comes at many levels.

Hope this helps.

For myself, I measure my success by how intrinsically motivated I am to be where I am doing what Im doing. If IM truely happy doing whatever it is Im giving my time and energy to, then Im successful. Im proud, I can look back with pride, Im growing, learning, and discovering; feeding my soul.

A high paying job with no personal fullfillment is not success; its a waste of time.

This is a truly complex, thought-provoking question. I believe the answer is that success is trying your very best to reach your goals, not necessarilly reaching them as many think, and helping those you meet along the way.

I believe success is a an accumulation of dreams acquired that were thought unattainable. That something feared sure to fail did not. I feel that we strive to do a thing we hope for in the desire to reach a goal before out of reach. It is one person's attempt to rise above his own station in life. Not in comparison to others but their own life struggles and hard works. It isn't about money it is about doing the very thing one believes is possible and the realization of that thing in reality. The kudos goes to the soul who goes beyond what they felt they could, or perhaps imagined for them self.

Success is being content with who you are, having love in your life, and enough money to keep a roof over your head, the wolf away from the door, and to help other people a little. It is knowing that the people you love, also love you in return.

I believe success cannot be measured in terms of material things or monetary value. I believe success is being happy and content with who you are. I believe being happy is the most important thing in this life. The happier you are the more successful you are :)
